A Historic Year for Local Elections

This year, we’ve helped recruit more than 90 Democratic and Democratic-leaning candidates to step up and run for local office across Utah - an unprecedented number for a municipal cycle. In cities with ranked choice voting, there’s still time for more candidates to file, but already this is shaping up to be a record-breaking year for Democratic engagement at the local level.

These candidates aren’t running to make headlines or chase national attention. They’re running to serve their neighbors, fix potholes, improve parks, protect clean air and water, and ensure local government works for everyone - not just the loudest or wealthiest voices. Municipal offices are where democracy is most personal and where your vote has the greatest impact.

And let’s be clear: these races matter far beyond city hall. Local leaders are the frontline defense against the chaos and extremism of Trumpism. They’re the ones protecting voting rights, advancing common-sense solutions, and modeling the kind of leadership we need more of as we head into the 2026 midterms and beyond.

Winning these races takes more than time and talent - it takes resources. That’s why we’re raising money for our 2024–2025 Victory Fund, which helps ensure candidates in competitive races have the tools they need to win.

Last cycle, we sent tens of thousands of texts to help turn out voters in key elections. This year, we’re expanding those efforts into the primaries - because these elections are often decided by a handful of votes. We’ve identified 15 candidates in highly competitive primary races who need a boost to make it to the general election.
