2024 is right around the corner! Next year will be an extremely important election year for both Salt Lake County and for the nation. In November, we will have a chance to flip the Salt Lake County Council blue for the first time since 2008! Mayor Wilson is also up for re-election next cycle and if she is successful and the SLCo Council flips blue, it will be only the 2nd time ever that Democrats have controlled both the County Mayor’s office and the SLCo Council. We’ve got a plan in place to make sure we capitalize on this key opportunity, but we are going to need each of your help.
I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. Read on to see a recap of everything we’ve accomplished this year, hear about upcoming dates and events, and see how you can get more involved during this key election season.
2023 Recap
As 2023 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to both celebrate and learn from everything that’s happened this year. Here’s just a few of things we accomplished together in 2023:
Held 50+ events and trainings
Supported 150+ candidate and community partner events
Elected a new Executive Committee and 68 new HD Officers
Helped 73 Democrat and Democrat-friendly candidates file for office
Sent over 100,000 election texts
Made 2,000+ Get Out The Vote calls
Elected 31 Democrat and Democrat-friendly candidates
Thank you to everyone who participated in making 2023 such a fantastic year. Everything we accomplished was only possible because of thousands of volunteers, donors, candidates, and supporters. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Special thanks to every candidate who ran for public office this year. Regardless of the outcome, your sacrifice and commitment to progressing Democratic values is appreciated.

2024 Elections Preview
As we head into 2024 get ready for another crazy and exciting election season. There are 50+ Democrats (and counting) who plan to run for office next year in Salt Lake County.
This includes local school board races where we have made an unprecedented effort to recruit and train Democratic candidates. Far right wing groups like Moms for Liberty are targeting our local school boards in SLCo, so they can ban books, attack queer children, and undermine our public education. That’s why we are working hard to make sure there are quality candidates with strong pro-teacher, and pro-public education values running for as many of these seats as possible.
Four Salt Lake County Council seats and Mayor Wilson are also up for re-election. While we don’t know Mayor Wilson's opponent yet, we know that this is going to be a tough year and we are going to need to work hard to ensure Mayor Wilson gets re-elected. Our number 1 priority this next cycle is defending her seat and flipping the SLCo Council.
We can’t complete any of these goals without your help. We need each and every person that reads this newsletter to do their part to fight back against right wing extremism. That’s why we're asking you to donate to our 2024 Victory Fund.
Don’t Forget to Check A Buck
Did you know that you can donate $2 to local political parties for free when you file your taxes? Yes really, for free!
All you have to do is check the box on your tax return that asks if you would like to donate $2 to the Utah Election Campaign Fund and select the Democratic Party. That donation will then be split between us and the State Party - at no cost to you!
Imagine what we could accomplish if every Democrat in the County checked this box, that would be over $200,000 that we could use to support our incredible candidates! This is a super simple way to be a part of the effort to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, so make sure that you and everyone you know checks that box!

In Closing…
The start of a new year is an opportunity for us to reflect on the year prior and commit to making improvements, no matter how small, in the year to come. With a new beginning comes a chance to renew our dedication to increasing equity and opportunity for all people and building a community where everyone is accepted and respected.
This New Year I am committing to step outside my comfort zone and do one more thing to build progress and make not just myself, but my community better. I hope you’ll join me in this resolution. To make 2024 better than 2023,
